USD 450 SELECTS 2020 SHAWNEE HEIGHTS HORIZON AWARD WINNERS

Kansas (September 12, 2019) – Shawnee Heights USD 450 selected their 2020
Shawnee Heights Horizon Award Winners today. Every year Shawnee Heights selects
two outstanding teachers to nominate for this award. These teachers will be nominated
for the 2020 Kansas Horizon Award sponsored by the Kansas State Department of
Education. Members of the Shawnee Heights administration and the Shawnee
Heights Public Schools Foundation surprised the teachers in their classroom and
delivered the news on September 12, 2019.
This year
Shawnee Heights USD 450 selected Sidney Doty and Regan Jones to nominate for
the Kansas Horizon Award. The Kansas Horizon Award program identifies and recognizes
representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary
classrooms of the state. The mission of the program is to recognize exemplary
first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.
Sidney Doty is a fifth-grade teacher at Berryton Elementary and was selected as the Elementary Horizon Award Nominee. Regan Jones, a social studies teacher at Shawnee Heights High School was selected at the Secondary Horizon Award Nominee. “These teachers are both excellent examples of the high-quality teachers in classrooms across the district and we are proud of the hard work, dedication and passion they bring to teaching every day” said Martin Stessman, Superintendent of Shawnee Heights USD 450.
