Commended National Merit Scholar, Kale Stahl

Congratulations to Kale Stahl for becoming a Commended National Merit Scholar! Students who achieve top PSAT scores may receive recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation(NMSC). The NMSC compares PSAT scores with those of other students in their state. The top 3-4% of scorers are named Commended Scholars. The top 1% are named National Merit Semifinalists, which can then apply for Finalist status and potentially win scholarship money.
While Kale just missed the 1% mark to call himself a National Merit Semifinalist, his accomplishment is resume-worthy. After graduating high school, Kale plans on studying for his Ph.D. in Math, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Kale hasn’t made a final decision on where he will be going to college next year; his dream school is Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He says he might start at Kansas State University who has offered him great scholarships and an undergrad research position and then proceed to MIT.
Since 2007, Shawnee Heights has had twenty National Merit Commend Scholars and six National Merit Finalist Scholars. For more information about the PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, see https://parents.collegeboard.org/college-board-programs/psat-nmsqt.
