2019 Shawnee Heights Teachers of the Year!
Congratulations to Quinci Packard and Tiffany Sloan for being selected as our 2019 Shawnee Heights Teachers of the Year!
Mrs. Packard teaches Fourth Grade at Tecumseh South Elementary and was selected as the Elementary Teacher of the Year. She has been teaching for sixteen years with seven of those years at Tecumseh South in the Shawnee Heights School District. She is known for building strong relationships and connections with students and staff and impacts students beyond the classroom by connecting her curriculum to “real-world” skills. Mrs. Packard has been a model teacher who is invested in her students even after the last bell rings.
Ms. Sloan is a Math Teacher at Shawnee Heights High School and was selected as the Secondary Teacher of the Year. She has taught a variety of math classes for Shawnee Heights in her eight years as an educator and has taken on a leadership role in both the math department and at Shawnee Heights High School. Inside the classroom, she is known to challenge her students with rigorous content pushing them to a higher standard and outside the classroom, she is a great role model for the Cheerleaders of Shawnee Heights. Ms. Sloan goes above and beyond by calling parents for a “positive checkup,” picking students who are doing well or have improved in her class and calling home to give parents a positive report about how their student is doing.
Every year Shawnee Heights selects two outstanding teachers for this award. These teachers will be nominated for the 2019-2020 Kansas Teacher of the Year.
The Kansas Teacher of the Year Award recognizes and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. Its mission is to build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance, and the teaching profession.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Packard and Ms. Sloan on being selected as the Shawnee Heights Teachers of the Year and wish them luck as they prepare their materials for Kansas Teacher of the Year. They are both excellent examples of the high-quality teachers in classrooms across the district and will be fine representatives of USD 450 at the regional and state level.
